Life changes that may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period
Important: If you had a change more than 60 days ago but since January 1, 2020
If you qualified for a Special Enrollment Period but missed the deadline to enroll in coverage because you were affected by the COVID-19 emergency, you may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period.
If you or someone in your household lost qualifying health coverage in the last 60 days (or more than 60 days ago but since January 1, 2020) OR expect to lose coverage in the next 60 days, you may qualify for this Period Special Enrollment through application.
If you had a life change other than a loss of coverage more than 60 days ago and missed your Special Enrollment Period, please contact the Marketplace Call Center at 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855- 889-4325) for more information.
Changes in household size
You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you or someone in your household in the last 60 days:
got married Choose a plan by the last day of the month and your coverage can start the first day of the following month.
Had a baby, adopted a child, or placed a child in foster care. Your coverage can start the day of the event - even if you join the plan up to 60 days later.
You got divorced or legally separated and lost health insurance. Note: Divorce or legal separation without losing coverage does not qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period.
Death. You'll be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period if someone in your Marketplace plan dies and you're no longer eligible for your current health plan as a result.
Changes of residence
Address changes that qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period:
Moving to a new home in a new county or zip code
Moving to the United States from a foreign country or territory.
If you are a student, you move to or from the place where you go to school
If you are a temporary worker, moving to or from where you live and work
You move to or from a shelter or other transitional housing
Note: Moving just for medical treatment or staying at a vacation spot does not qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period.
Important: You must confirm that you qualified for medical coverage for one or more days during the 60 days prior to move-in. You do not need to provide confirmation if you are moving from a foreign country or US territory.
Loss of health coverage
You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you lost your qualifying coverage in the last 60 days OR you expect someone in your household to lose coverage in the next 60 days.
Important: If you lost coverage more than 60 days ago, but since January 1, 2020, and you didn't enroll earlier because you were affected by the FEMA-declared COVID-19 emergency, you may still qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
Apply to see if you qualify. You may be asked to submit documents to confirm loss of coverage .
Losses of coverage that may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period:
Losing coverage based on your employment
Losing individual health coverage under a plan or policy you purchased
Loss of eligibility for Medicaid or CHIP
Loss of eligibility for Medicare
Loss of qualified health coverage through a family member
An employer offer to help with the cost of coverage
You may be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period if you or anyone in your household has access to a Individual Coverage HRA or a_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_ Qualified Small Employer Medical Expenses Reimbursement Agreement (QSEHRA) in the last 60 days OR expect it in the next 60 days.
Note: Your employer may refer to an individual coverage HRA by a different name, such as the acronym "ICHRA."
Generally, you will need to apply for and enroll in individual health insurance before your individual HRA or QSEHRA coverage begins. However, your employer may offer different options for when your individual HRA or QSEHRA coverage can start so you have more time to enroll. Contact them or refer to the notice you received from your employer for more information. If you're currently enrolled in a Marketplace plan with savings, these savings may change because of help you get through a job. If you qualify to enroll in Marketplace coverage through this Special Enrollment Period, please contact Marketplace Call Center to complete your enrollment. You can't do it online.

Obtain membership status in a federally recognized tribe or Alaska Native (ANCSA)
You are now eligible for Marketplace health coverage by becoming a US citizen.
